Elk Lake Lodge Renovations
Ranked “One of the ten best wilderness lodges in North America” by Outside Magazine is Elk Lake Lodge located in North Hudson in the heart of the Adirondack Mountain high peaks. The Lodge is undergoing a renovation to their main lodge and surrounding site. The first phase site improvements designed by Studio A include vehicular and pedestrian circulation, landscaping, and grading and drainage.
World of Life Bible Institute Campus Planning + Improvements
Situated on the picturesque Schroon Lake shoreline is the “home” campus for the WOL’s global academic enterprise. Studio A is bringing a world-class vision to the campus with a master plan that updates the visitor arrival sequence, the athletic facilities and a student residential experience. Phase 1 of the dormitory expansion has been completed with new phases of the master plan scheduled for roll-out over the next few months.
Mohawk Gateway Streetscape
Throughout this project, we held numerous community out reach meetings and presentations. It was a great interactive process with the Town to figure out how the residents and community members envisioned their Streetscape. The design phase has been completed and went out to bid over the summer. The project was awarded and construction will be implemented in the upcoming months. Stay tuned for completion photos!
Pitney Meadows Community Farm Trails + Recreation Master Plan
Over last winter, Studio A worked with Pitney Meadows Community Farm to develop a trails and recreation Master Plan for the farm. We held numerous meetings with the Pitney Meadows Trails Committee and various stakeholders to develop a plan to meet the wants and needs of their growing community. Various ideas were discussed and the final plan included perimeter trails, wildlife areas, unique design elements, and fishing opportunities.
ORDA - Mt. VanHoevenburg
Exciting improvements are underway at ORDA’s Mt. VanHoevenburg Venue in Lake Placid. Studio A is the Landscape Architect on the design/build project team. The project includes a new base lodge, combined cross-country ski and bobsled/luge stadium, mountain coasters, additional cross-country ski trails, arrival plaza and sequence, awards plaza, landscaping, and utilities. Upgrades to the aging facilities are partially in preparation for the 2023 Winter World University Games!
Albany County Nursing Home Additions + Renovations
Construction is progressing at the Albany County Nursing Home. While the project is being implemented in phases, a few of the interior courtyards are nearing completion with paving, landscaping, and site furnishings. Project completion is scheduled for 2020.
Studio A Civil Engineering Services + Welcome Matt Huntington, PE!
We are excited to welcome Matt Huntington, PE to the Studio A team as a Principal Civil Engineer! With over 12 years of experience, Matt’s expertise includes developing projects from the conceptual phase through completion by preparing proposals, performing and/or overseeing design tasks delegated to junior staff, communicating with clients throughout the design, and actively managing projects during construction. His diverse and complex experience includes projects for commercial, residential, municipal, and industrial clients.
As the Director, he will oversee all aspects of engineering services that Studio A offers. Such services include site design, permitting, bridge design, roadway alignment, commercial and residential on-site wastewater disposal systems, water supply and wastewater disposal infrastructure, retaining wall design, and pre-engineered metal building foundation systems.
With the combination of Landscape Architecture and Civil Engineering services under one roof, Studio A can now provide our clients with an integrated approach to site design. Close collaboration between these two disciplines allows our team to develop ecologically-rich designs that reflect a cohesive balance of aesthetics and performance, insuring a final product that is sustainable, resilient, beautiful, and timeless.
Nick Olthoff Participates in the Best Warrior Competition!
SGT Olthoff, Nicklas was selected amongst his peers to compete at the annual 172nd Medical Battalion Best Warrior Competition. He competed against 18 other soldiers throughout a series of vigorous events to test mental and physical resiliency. Events included: Army Physical Fitness Test, Written Test & Essay, 12-Mile Ruck March, Tactical Casualty Care, Day and Night Land Navigation, and Drill & Ceremony. At the close of the event, he was announced as the 3rd place finisher.
Kirsten Catellier Participates on Committees
Over this last year, Kirsten Catellier has been participating as the Eastern Section Chair for the NY Upstate American Society of Landscape Architects. During her term, she has planned a CEU Happy Hour for members and a full day CEU event for LA’s, Architects, and Engineers, complete with a golf outing! Her term is ongoing for another year and she continuously participates with the Executive Committee of the Organization.
She has been asked to join the Lake George Land Conservancy NextGen Committee, which is a group of young professionals who are passionate about protecting the land and the lake
FEATURE PROJECT: K-1 LODGE RE-IMAGINED
Killington Resort, with 3,000 acres, is the largest four season ski and snowboard resort in Eastern North America and home to the Women’s World Cup in November. The Resort is under construction with a new Lodge at the base of the K-1 Gondola that is slated to open during the 2020-21 season. The new lodge designed by Breadloaf Corporation will be 50% larger than the current lodge at 58,000 sq. ft. and include unobstructed 180-degree views of the surrounding Vermont Mountain Landscape. Noted as the re-imagined K-1 Base Lodge, this new lodge will transform the guest experience for those visiting and provide more opportunity for year-round adventure at the resort.
Inside, the lodge will include a full-service bar, upscale fine dining, food court, guest services, rentals, bag check, Killington Sports, and additional flex space. Site improvements designed by Studio A include a re-configuration of the bus turnaround, drop off zones, vehicle and pedestrian circulation, trail and gondola access, outdoor plaza space, lighting, and landscaping.
